Copperfield Accusations Vanish

Jan 13, 2010 Author: Alikzam | Filed under: magic news

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Two years ago a woman accused David Copperfield of doing un-gentlemen like things to her while she visited David’s private island. The only problem is this woman had a history of claiming these things against famous and rich people. Well, after two years its being reported that the charges have been dropped. Its so sad that some sick woman is able to drag somebody’s name through the mud like that. Glad to hear that the whole thing is finally settled.

The comments on the article that I linked to have some pretty funny jokes. I wonder if this story will hit the late-night joke circuit? The jokes practically write themselves on this one.

How con artists exploit human behavior

Dec 9, 2009 Author: Alikzam | Filed under: magic news

When I was going to Okanagan College to get my diploma in Telecommunications and Networking Engineering I used to read the Schneier on Security blog daily. Its been like 3 years since then, and I don’t read it anymore… But its still a great blog, and he’s a brilliant man. A few days ago the world between security and magic crossed when he posted an article about how con artists exploit human behavior and a magician Paul Wilson was part of the project.

Using magic to seduce women?

Oct 28, 2009 Author: Alikzam | Filed under: magic news

Here’s an interesting article about a school that will teach you 10 magic tricks in 2 hours that you can use to supposedly help you pick up girls at the bar. I have my doubts, but the article is interesting none-the-less.

Kokanee Salmon Festival

Sep 18, 2009 Author: Alikzam | Filed under: magic news

On Sunday September 20th I will be performing at the RDCO’s Kokanee Salmon Festival at Mission Creek Park. I will be there from 1:00-3:00 PM performing Mingling Magic.

You have two opportunities this weekend to celebrate the return of the Kokanee salmon to area creeks!

Bring the whole family out and take part in the free Kokanee Salmon Festivals in Mission Creek and Hardy Falls Regional Parks on Sunday, September 20th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan and City of Kelowna are teaming up for the event in Mission Creek Regional Park, Springfield and Durnin Roads. There will be interpretive programs where you can see and learn more about the land-locked Kokanee salmon in and around the spawning channel. There will be ‘fishy’ displays and activities for you to participate in or you can sit back and enjoy the musical entertainment throughout the day. New this year is the Salmon Story Telling Tent, a large, inflatable, interactive tent where you can hear native legends narrated about the salmon.

At Hardy Falls Regional Park (Hardy Road off Highway 97 south in Peachland) join the Regional District, Roger W. Cyr and Associates and the Peachland Sportsmens Association for the Kokanee Salmon Festival. Interpretive tours will be available as the salmon return to Peachland (Deep) Creek to spawn. You’ll also find ‘fishy’ activities for the family, a colouring contest and a BBQ by donation or contribution of a non-perishable food item for the Peachland Food Bank.

Don’t miss these fun-filled, fish focused events!

New Bicycle Eco-Edition Playing Cards

Sep 18, 2009 Author: Alikzam | Filed under: magic news, misc. neat things

Yesturday I was in WalMart picking up a few things before heading off to a magic show when I needed some more playing cards. That’s where I came across the new “Bicycle – Eco Edition” playing cards. The box for them is just awesome looking.

I of course bought them. On the back of the box it says:

Our playing cards crafted from sustainable forest paper. Starch based lamination glue and vegatable-based printing inks. This pack of cards is recyclable.

Made by us. Enjoyed by you. Befit for all.

The black ink appears to be just a little bit lighter than on regular playing cards, but its hardly noticeable. There’s also no red ink. Just green and yellow.

The backs of the cards are also printed in green ink as well.

These cards have the standard “Air Cushion Finish” like all other Bicycle cards and they handle just the same as other regular bicycle cards. I think they’re kind of neat and could probably open up some interesting presentational ideas too.

FISM 2009: Shawn Farquhar Grand Prix Winner!

Jul 31, 2009 Author: Alikzam | Filed under: magic news, magic videos

Congratulations to my friend in magic, and fellow BC magician Shawn Farquhar! This year Shawn took home the Grand Prix award at FISM the “Olympics of Magic”. On StreetofCards.tv Shawn teased us by explaining that he would be performing a combination of his “Shape of my heart” routine and his signed card to sealed card case effect. Hopefully Shawn will release some footage of the effect for us who couldn’t make it out to FISM.
